Purpose of this document
This page describes the deliverables from the Common Execution Infrastructure subsystem during Release 1 Iteration 2, structured by component.

The Common Execution Infrastructure subsystem provides an execution environment for system and user processes that enables reliable execution and scales to demand.

The Common Execution Infrastructure subsystem contains three components.

Execution Engine Catalog & Repository

This component maintains references to registered execution sites and virtual compute node configuration packages. An important responsibility of this component is to provide the tools necessary for bringing those configurations 'to life' as instantiated compute nodes, also known as 'contextualization'.

Status

CIDEVCEI-68 - Made context-agent handle transient network failures. Ready to be installed into any base OOI VMs.

jiraissues: Unable to determine if sort should be enabled.

Elastic Computing Services

This component provides scheduling, provisioning, and monitoring services to maintain a balanced deployment of virtual compute nodes at one site.

Status

Several phone calls and miscellaneous email work regarding the possible VMware integration (not captured as a JIRA task).

Resource Management Services

This component establishes global and standard models for the operational management (monitor & control) of stateful and taskable resources. It is the point of integration with the COI.

Status

The CEI Design document discusses the software strategy being implemented.  A healthy representation of this has been implemented, it can be run from scratch by going to thisdirectory in the CEI lcaarch branch, reading the README, and running the fab bootstrap command.

These JIRA tasks contain a wealth of information about the details of the component implementations.

Next actions

Much still needs separation into validation on inputs, refactoring, more unit tests, more error scenario handling, recovery-from-total-failure handling, incorporation of message contents/semantics into CEI Design document and OOI architecture documentation, and scalability/reliability testing.

Specific next actions will be proposed, discussed, and then locked in in the context of next iteration planning.
