Introduction to Release 2

Release 2 is the Managed Instrument Network release. The release builds on the core data management and delivery services developed in Release 1. This release develops integrated support for OOI Marine Observatory instrument providers and operators. Secondary themes are support for operational management of the CI infrastructure and network, integration of computational tools for data manipulation, analysis, and visualization, and early prototyping of release 3 capabilities.

The target communities for Release 2 are OOI operators, OOI scientists, and select early adopters in the extended OOI user community. Release 2 will be the basis for supporting initial marine operations and deployments.

This release will be the first to be deployed at multiple sites.

Use Case Features Summary

These features are summarized from the use cases for Release 2 and the Themes and Features in the Release 2 Construction Plan. (Features in gray have an agreed priority of 3 or lower.)

Note that many features will be available with this release but can not be fully configured or demonstrated immediately upon completion of the release, as they require the completion of system designs and/or implementations on the part of the Marine IOs. Full operation of these features will commence once the marine systems are sufficiently complete to enable integration with the Integrated Observatory.

  • Edit data resource attributes

Data Processing and Visualization

  • Process data and track data provenance and versions
  • Produce real-time calibrated data
  • Define visualization pipelines and visualize data products
  • Support external visualization tools (e.g., Matlab)

Data Workflows and Model Integration

  • View modeler-submitted products
  • Transform data in workflows
