Presentations and Workshop Materials

Workshop Results

The workshop notes and resulting models are consolidated into the Data Management Subsystem Architecture Specification documents using the DoDAF standard.

Logistics and Reimbursement

All workshop participants should make their own flight arrangements to San Diego and retain receipts for reimbursement through Karen Schwamb at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.  Karen's contact information is:

Karen Schwamb / Administrative Associate
Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering Department
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
266 Woods Hole Rd., MS 7
Woods Hole, MA  02543
Telephone:  508-289-2675 / Fax:  508-457-2006

We've reserved (and prepaid for) rooms for workshop attendees traveling from out of town at the Sheraton La Jolla at 3299 Holiday Court, La Jolla, CA 92037 (858.453.5500).  They provide plenty of information (including directions) on their web site.

Workshop attendees will be responsible for incidentals. Please retain your receipts (if necessary) for reimbursement through Karen.

A taxi from the airport to the hotel is quickest and easiest way to the hotel.  At that point, we encourage you to coordinate with other attendees for transportation from the hotel to the workshop location (Room 4004 Atkinson Hall - Warren College ).  For those who might wish to walk from the hotel to campus, we recommend that you give yourself 20 to 30 minutes - this is an estimate for a brisk paced walk with some significant hills.  Your foot route from the hotel to Atkinson Hall (F-6 on the campus map - W in Warren College) is North on Villa La Jolla Drive (right from Holiday Court or the Sheraton), straight through two lights and left onto Gilman Drive.  Turn Right onto Russell Lane.  At the end of Russell Lane - continue traveling North on walkways (between buildings), cross Matthews Lane, continue between buildings to Warren Mall.  Cross the Mall and continue to travel on walkways between buildings to Atkinson Hall.

For those who choose to rent a car and drive - on-campus parking requires the purchase of a daily permit from kiosks located at the visitor information centers or in the newer parking structures.  Keep the permit for reimbursement through Karen.  When driving to campus from the hotel, turn North on Villa La Jolla Drive (right from Holiday Court or the Sheraton), and turn left at the first light onto La Jolla Village Drive.  Get into the far right lane and exit onto Gilman Drive (almost immediately).  Turn right onto Gilman and pull into the visitors information center on the right to purchase your parking permit.  Proceed North/right on Gilman through five stop signs, one light, and one final stop sign. Turn left on Voigt Drive at the next stop sign.  Go straight through the next stop, and make a right at the next stop to stay on Voigt drive, which winds you around to stop signs at Justice Lane and Equality Lane.  The next (third stop) is parking lot 502, which is your best bet for parking near Atkinson Hall.  If you arrive late, and cannot find parking in Lot 502, please proceed up the hill and park in the new parking structure (not shown on this map) on the Northwest corner of the intersection of Hopkins and Voigt.  This parking structure has its own parking pass kiosks - so if you don't mind the short walk from there to Atkinson - you can skip the detour to the Gilman information center and just take Villa La Jolla to Gilman - and head right to Voigt.

Rita Bauer (rmbauer@ucsd.edu) can help with driver-rider coordination if you will let her know what your itinerary is.  Her contact information is:

Workshop attendees will receive breakfast and lunch, but you will be on your own for dinner each day, so we'll provide a list of local restaurants to make your selection easier.  Woods Hole meal perdiem reimbursement rate is limited to $57 per day.  As a single meal, dinner is limited to $30.  Karen will reimburse meals at these rates.

We hope this provides you with the information you need - but if not - please do not hesitate to contact Karen or Rita should you have questions regarding the workshop or need assistance in making your arrangements.
